QTO Report

Quantity take-off by grouping

The QTO Report sums the quantity properties you pick for every group at the deepest level of a grouping. A level-by-system grouping gives one row per system on each level, and the pivot on the QTO Summary sheet rolls the rows up by level, with the output units chosen at export time.

What it does

Pull quantities by any property, Excel-ready

Sum quantities for every group at the deepest level of a grouping and export them to an Excel workbook with a pivot summary, or to CSV.

  • Sum lengths, areas, volumes and any other decimal property for every group, combining property categories such as Element and Revit Type in one take-off
  • One row per group, with a column for each grouping rule, one per quantity and an element count. Elements with no value for a rule are collected under [UNDEFINED], so missing data shows up in the take-off
  • The dialog shows the model units. Pick any Navisworks unit for the export and lengths, areas and volumes are converted, for example a model in feet taken off in metres
  • Leave the quantity list empty to get an element count per group
  • Excel workbook with a pivot summary, or a plain CSV file
  • Each element is read once for all requested properties, so large groupings export quickly
  • The export can be cancelled while it runs
  • With a property cache loaded, the dialog opens with its category and property lists already filled

Take-offs that follow the model breakdown

The workbook has two sheets: QTO Export, a formatted Excel table, and QTO Summary, a pivot with every grouping level as a row field, so levels can be collapsed or expanded in Excel. Because the take-off runs over a grouping, the same rules that build the selection sets and the reports also drive the quantities. Change the grouping and the take-off changes with it. Rerun the rules after a model update and the take-off is refreshed with the same structure, so two exports can be compared column by column.
